Sue, I'm not Guy Fay, but your Continental engine in IH sheet metal is probably from a IHC #61, #62, or #52 combine as this Continental Y69 engine was used continusely on these models from at least the early forties (my earliest book showing combine specifications is 1942 which shows it on the 61 combine) through at least 1951 (the last specification book I have showing it still in the 62 combine is the 1951 book)(I don't have a 1952 book). The Continental in IH sheet metal was also used in the 40's as an optional hay baler engine along with the Wisconsin V4 engine,(the Cub engine replaced the Continental for the water cooled hay baler engine in 1948) but the combine application would be a much more likely sourse with over a ten year run on at least three common combine models, so there would have been many of them around to use for conversion applications.
