IH apparantly planned the fast hitch for some time, as even the straight C's rear end is drilled for it and it can be retrofitted. If your dad bought the tractor new, then he should know, otherwise it was probably retrofitted by the dealer. It could also have been on the dealers lot until the fast hitch Super C came out, then the dealer installed the fast hitch and sold it new to your dad. Did your dad buy the tractor in 1952 or 1953? The Super MTA rear end was also drilled for fast hitch, but other than the Super C, fast hitch first appeared on the numbered series: 100, 300, 400, and of course the Super C's replacement, the 200.
