53 H Running But Not Running Good

I just refired up my old H after doing a motor job cause the oil rings were toast. the good news is there is no more blue smoke. She runs now but, but not like an H should, There is a knock when I it is at high RPM, but not when it revs up to the high rpms. Also she is low in power. Won't haul her self in 5th gear, she doesn't get hot, and there doesn't seem to be a miss. Could it be the timing, it doesn't use a mag. and suggestions would be great to hear. Please help.
