Diana: There you have your answer,heater in the manifold. I wish Dan had elaborated abit more on the battery set up for you. Most of the direct start diesels of that era used two batteries. When you replace those cables don't be afraid to go heavy. One gauge with soldered on ends. I find the best place to get cables that heavy is go to heavy truck repair shops. That is one item I omitted, bateries and their connections on a diesel must be in top shape and capable of turning that diesel over fast.
