I just weld a flat plate 1/4 thick 2" x about6-7" on top of old generator mount and weld tabs on top of that for alternator mount. I usually allow space enough for about 4 washers between tabs, makes fo easier alignment on belt. One problem, because of alternator shape you cant get close enough for belts to line up. I go to auto wreckers and get a double alternator pully off the older V8 cars. The ones I know will work well are Olds and Buick. By using the outer pully of the double this allows you to set alternator lower and back just enough for that. You can use the same belt as used on generator, but about 1" shorter tucks alternator nicer, makes it look good. Any questions just e mail me.
