I have not looked for the timing mark on mine. It is supposed to be on the front pulley. From what I remember reading in previous posts it is pretty hard to see. Growing up we always just timed them by ear. Loosen the locking bolt and slowly rotate the distributor one or the other until it runs the smoothest. It would be a good idea to do this again at fast idle. Also verify that it revs up approriately. P.S. If the plug wires are dried and cracked it is not unusual to get bit pretty good if you try grabbing the distributor cap. Been there and done that.
