Gary - A standard panel gage has a case diameter of 2-1/16". A Farmall (or other) aftermarket ammeter will fit and work fine on your Ford so long as the opening in the tin large enough to accomodate it. One possible hitch on a Ford: I believe the original ammeter on the N-series simply has the wire clipped the back of the ammeter - there are no terminals on which to connect the wiring. (It's how my brother's 9N is set up - I presume N's are similar). However Farmall and other aftermarket ammeters have 2 terminals. If the ammeter you remove has no terminals, you can adapt a terminal type ammeter simply by cutting the wire where it passes the ammeter, then connecting the resulting 2 wire ends to the ammeter terminals. (For safety disconnect the battery ground strap while you do this!!) If the ammeter should read "backward" after you hook it up, simply swap the two connections at the ammeter.
