400 hyd. questions

have a '55 400 gas and was wondering what the psi rating was. I think my pump may be going bad. I looked in the cap screw on top of the pump, and saw a spring sideways, may be flying apart? I was trying to work my bi fold rake and barely went up and down, and couldn't fold it back up. should it be able to? I want to put on a Dual loader and load round bales from a new idea baler that weigh 1300 to 1500 lbs each, should i be able to? How do i test the pressure? should i plug and end into one of the outlets with a guage?
