I experienced the same thing, bought a used M&W friction throttle, that seller said came from an M but it sure wouldn't work on my H. Allready had one on the M so the new one is laying around the shop- don't remember if I tried it on the M or not. Heck it might have been for another brand of tractor for all I know. my nickel
