Joe - First check the obvious: Wiring is correct and the drive belt is tight. Then with the motor running about 1/2 throttle temporarily jumper between the BAT and #1 terminals on the alternator. If the light goes out and the ammeter now shows charge, the warning lamp is not drawing enough current. Swap the bulb for one that draws at least 200 ma - an automotive side marker bulb (#168, #192, etc) is good - and your problem should be solved. If jumpering the BAT/#1 terminal DOESN'T work there's a problem with the alternator, despite what the parts places are telling you... Good luck!! PS - If the alternator is charging you should read somewhere between 13.8 and 14.6 volts at the battery...it will vary somewhat with temperature.
