Paul, The "E" in that prefix of the number is for the engine serial number. I agree the engine is a '38 model. The chassis serial number should be on a plate located on the fuel tank support. If you find the chassis serial number, the following suffixes may help you out: P= pneumatic tires M= Modified SP=four speed transmission HA=high altitude pistons S=special attachments NT=narrow tread (These suffixes were used on tractors after chassis number KC 204239).
