2424 dual stage clutch

I have a 67 2424. The second stage clutch (pto) will not allow you to engage the pto with the engine running. The pto had not been used by the previous owner for some time.

It worked when I first tried it out, I put in the clutch and could engage the pto w/o any load.

When I hooked up the brush hog, I could not engage the pto with the clutch in. Have to turn the tractor off, engage the pto and restart.

I adjusted the clutch so I now have about 3/4" free play.

Sounds like I have a pto clutch disc that is stuck.

Any way to inspect and lubricate the splines on the pto disc w/o major surgery?
