if it's the pull type implement--chopper--then that would probably work ok if you cut the twine on the bales and then spread the bales out in a windrowed fashion, otherwise you will plug something up. a flail chopper doesn't chop as fine as a silage/haylage machine, so it would probably be at the lengths you need for mulch use. 10 miles isn't so far by pick up truck though, so that might be the better option...or check out auctions for a smaller pt0 drive spreader. -karl
