Tim, You like this subject, I think. As you can see from the picture, I can have this argument with myself everyday. As I said before, the seat on the JD wins big time. I can only get that JD surging thing with a mower in a high gear with low RPM. If you run a lower gear with higher RPM's, no problem - use the flywheel effect. The H is, of course, smooth all the time. I like working on the H's engine better, but if there's ever a clutch problem, let it be on the JD - very easy to access. The JD is terrible to back anything - reverse is the same ratio as 3rd forward. So you see a lot of JD's with front hitches. The JD has 5 work speed forward gears versus the 4 on the H. The hydraulics on the H are smooth and effortless compared to the JD. I put the loader on the H in the Spring and use it instead of our utility with a loader. I doesn't move nearly as much in one gulp, but the H doesn't get stuck in the muck. The low ground clearance utility will. Nobody has mentioned the all important 50 per cent savings on spark plugs for the JD. Nor has anybody mentioned any strange reasons - for example, my old Labrador seems to prefer the H, and I tend to respect her wisdom.

"Barry Seiler, owner of Country Town Farm Supply store used to invite people up to the Johne Deere store. He would give hats and a free meal for everyone that brings a tractor." Elliott said while this
