int 1086/jd 750 no-till drill

I can't get the pressure below 500lbs for worked ground my drill does'nt have the auto down pressure control system it has the hand control valve. is there something wrong with my valve? I've been told by the jd dealer where I bought the drill to just adjust the depth gauge wheels & run the pressure @500lbs anyone else have this problem? my drill is a 1995. thank you!
