there are two spade terminals on the side of alternator. number 2 is connected straight to the 12 volt lug on the back of alternator. the number 1 terminal is the excitation or signal wire to start charge. if you have full 12 volts here, it will be hard to get it to "kick in" i use a dropping resistor, 10 ohm, 10 watt in the line. the line should also be connected thru the switch or kill toggle so it stops power from flowing backward when motor is off. All this assumes your voltage regulator inside is good and capable of charging. I will send a print
