Don - Sounds like you got some sort of "generic" light switch to cover a wide range of IHC equipment. The terminals are as follows: BAT - supply from ammeter (I highly recommend installing a fuse (15 or 20 amps) in the supply to the BAT terminal.) HL - headlights RL - rear light TL - tail light INST - instrument lights Since an M does not have separate tail lights or instrument lights so the TL and INST terminals will not be used. Is your M equipped with a cutout relay (2 terminals and mounted on/near the generator) or a voltage regulator (4 terminals and mounted away from the generator)? If it has a cutout, from your description your new switch will not provide the charging system control function provided by the old 4-position light switch. Your options then are 1 - ground the generator field terminal so the generator runs at "high charge" all the time, or 2 - replace the cutout with a regulator. #3 - Find a used 4-position switch at a boneyard, in the YT classifieds, Ebay, etc. Options #2 of #3 are preferred. However if you use your tractor infrequently or only for short periods between starts, you can get by with #1 However your M already has a regulator, simply wire the switch per the table above and you'll be good to go. Hope this helps….
