There have been lots of discussions on here abut using the TA. On my SMTA I use it as described below, to get through the touch spots. I have been told to move the lever quickly in and out. You do not want to use it going down hill as it does free wheel and do the the construction the carrier moves very fast. You also do not want to use it to slow down on compression, I have read stories in here of the TA self destructing when used that way. The operator's manuel has some instructions also
