Bob S is right, temp gauges came on tractors that had dual fuel and shutters. The older ones without shutters had a cloth curtain that you had to roll up and clips in the ends of the curtain hooked into the small holes in the side of the radiator. Also I believe the gauges were calibrated to read properly at the bottom of the return elbow which would be just a little bit warm when the temp was about right to run distillate. I don't have my parts book here to check this, but I think the shutter set up came out in 1937 on the F-12 and carried over to the F-14
