Charles,The cylinders are numbered 1 through 4 starting from the front. The firing order is 1-3-4-2. Number 1 on the distributor is the top outside ,nearest to you if you're standing beside the tractor.Its outside of the dist cap hold down clip.It turns clockwise if you're looking at it from the top,where the plug wires come out,sothe one straight under it is 3 the bottom next to the engine is 4,straight above that is 2.
