I had the same problem with an M. When I first heard it I got worried. The sound, kinda like a clanking sound was coming from right above the lift-all but going away when in gear but sitting at idle with it in neutral it would sound off. I dropped the lift-all ( had to replace a seal anyway). What I found was the clutch shaft joint ring had wallered out. The parts are not cheap. The plate is $80 and the tapered bolts are $10 a piece. The total parts cost is about $140. Good luck.
