If you don't need it to run right away, and you are going to restore it, you really should pull the cover and look at the gears, and clean it out right -- you are going to find all sorts of crud, including small chunks of metal from the gears, hopefully no big chunks. A lot of work, but worth it (on my tractors anyway).
