cub dash guages

I put out on a post a week or go asking if anybody knew what went into the left side hole on m Cubs dasah. I got the amp guage in the right hole, the gas rod inbetween it and an empty hole the same size as the amp guage hole. I thought it might be a heat guage, butr was told Cubs didnt have this luxerly. Finally foud out that IHC put a cap into the hole to close it up. Do an you folks remember that?
