Well, a few comments. There were around 7500 of them made originally, so it is a good investment for collectability. The D282 engine was used in several tractors (560, 660, 706, crawlers, more?) the crawler tractors were turboed so there are factory turbos and manifolds. There was also a kit from IH for high altitude use turbo. The D282 has been known to be turned up to around 100 horsepower without a turbo also. Glow plugs can be a pain, they take time. Use at least a minute or more when engine is cold (probably more like 2 minutes when temp is below 50 degrees). Even when the engine is warm you need glow plugs to start it... D282 was good for cracking/warping heads when not properly warmed up and cooling down. A properly cared for engine will run many hours without problems. People will try to tell you that the rearends don't hold up - that was only the first few that were produced and most of them were repaired by IH. Same thing with the early D282 engines. As far as value - I sold 660 diesel serial number 502 (2nd one off the line) for $3500 last year.

If the plug is fouled excessively with carbon it apparently is operating too cold and it should be replac
