The D-358 is pretty durable, as previously said, but also a lot more expensive to overhaul when something goes wrong. The D-358's in the 826 had a history of O-rings going bad, which is often the culprit in that engine if you find antifreeze in the pan. IH used a higher compression piston/ring set in the later D-358's making them a lot easier to start in the cold.
