It all depends on what you want. The MD probably has a tougher engine, but repairs are much more costly. Just how hard are you working this tractor? Few in here work their tractors day after day.. to the fullest potential as designed by the manufacturer. You might be an exception, but I doubt you are using the MD to work 100 to 160 acres - which I would guess was the original design. In your case, the difference between the M and the MD won't matter, until repair time. Yes, the MD will use less fuel - something that was really a big consideration when the tractor was built. Much of this was offset by the original cost difference between the two tractors. When I was on the farm in the 50's and early 60's, everyone wanted a diesel, but not as many were willing to pay the price difference.
