The gear has to come off before you can get the shaft out. There is a shoulder on the shaft, so it has to come out toward the outside end. I just went through replacing all the gaskets and seals on my 1948 Hebard shop mule PTO. It had the housing like the C in your picture, but different gears than the C. I think the shafts are the same. I looked in my parts CD and it looks like the PTO housing changed at tractor serial number 66670. I think it's possible the housing might fit, but I think you would need the different newer drive shaft parts.
