Had the same problem. It seems the newer style PTOs (above 1948) have different gears and the engaging clutch shaft is completely different. I also know...I tried to get a PTO from my 1954 Super A1 to fit my 1945 A. (the Super A1 has a badly damaged engine from frozen water.)I also found out that a early 40s A PTO has a different gear train. I think the gear might have to come off...I cant remember. Also check the PTO shaft itself is the same size or it wont work... So Im stuck with a busted PTO housing on my 45 A and have two different ones that I might not need.....
