Although I saw there was a recent discussion concerning this for a deisel, I am having the same problem with a 48 Cub and I am putting this out there since some of the responses for the deisel didn't seem to apply for a gas engine. I have had the cub for a couple months and a couple of weeks ago changed the oil, filter, plugs, drained/flushed the cooling system etc. for the first time. I didn't notice the problem before I did this but the oil level was low, very black, and when I changed the filter and drained the filter tube, it came out of the tube like black sludge. I also recently put a new muffler on it. Now it spits out oil from the muffler and I am certian it is oil, mainly visable where the muffler clamps to the pipe. Overall It runs great with only a little smoke, mainly when first started and usually don't need to choke it. The amount is minimal since I can't even see a difference on the dipstick. I also haven't run it hard since I did the tune-up but have run it for hours at a time but only to haul leaves. I am also getting minor oil leakage from the oil fill/dipstick area- how well is that dipstick/cap supposed to seal there? I have not cleaned the breather element in the cap yet. Should I wait till I start mowing and running the Cub harder to evaluate it. Not worry unless it gets worse? Thanks
