Farmall H light switch

I'm refurbishing my 42 H little by little. The lights weren't hooked up when I got it and the wiring had been modified/rigged. I got hold of a wiring diagram and want to wire it back correctly.
I have the 4-position switch. The decal says L H D B. How does this switch operate? What do the letters stand for? I just don't know. Low High Dim Bright? Seems redundant. Am I missing something more obvious?
