300 utility rap rap

About a month ago when i would use a brake on only one side to help bring myself around while hauling logs in the snow a knocking sound developed.It seemed forward of the transmission.I have continued to use the machine and the noise seemed to begin again as I would go down hill.It is now starting to become quite regular. It is kind of a rap rap rap noise.I like this tractor a lot and would like to keep it .As so many of you have said the old ones just seem so much better.Any ideas where to start? thanks dave
