Ths in a nature of the older Farmalls. As has been said, it is a result of ht spots or hot valves after running hard. The later ones had an electric solenoid built into the mixture control to shut the gas off cnmpletely when ignition was shut off to prevent this. The best for the engine is to let it idle a fewminutes before shutting down to let everything cool.
