H-gear grinding

I have a '51 H and have trouble with the gears grinding anytime I shift into a gear from a stopped position with the engine running. About the only way to not grind the gears is to disengage the clutch for maybe 5 to 8 seconds before attempting the shift. Does this sound like a weak pressure plate? The clutch does not slip.
The tractor has the M&W 9 speed transmission attachment but I don't think that has anything to do with it.
