The parts manual just shows a straigt rod. My tractors are put in storage for the winter so I haven't seen them in awhile but if I remember right the shaft from the linkage is square. There might be a slight bend in it but not sure. It is probable about 1/8" or 1/4" in diameter. You would just want to make sure that it doesn't bend on you. The part numbers are:

351 256 R1 - Lever, Power take-off shifter
Q 3 478 - Washer, Plain, 3/4"
103 397 - Pin, Cotter, 5/32 x 1-1/4"
