Most of the time, the distributor cap has a 1 by the #1 wire terminal. This should be, as said before in the 2 O'clock or so position. Going clock wise around the distributor cap starting with #1, insert the wires 1, 3, 4, 2. If the distributor is installed correctly you will then be right. If you still have problems after that, then my first guess would be that the distributor has been installed timed to a different cylinder than #1. If this is the case, then you will just simply haft to see which cylinder they timed the distributor with, and put that wire in the #1 terminal and put the other wires in according to the 1, 3, 4, 2 sequence but starting with whatever cylinder # the distributor was timed to. I have on rare occasion seen distributors that were timed to the wrong cylinder. They work the same but it changes wire placement (but not firing order).
