The Hydraulic unit on the 424 is under the seat. No need to split the tractor. You drain the hydraulic unit and then remove the cover. That gives you access to change out the piston which is internal to the hydaulic unit. The guy that did mine for me did it by feel without draining the oil. I don't think you can do that without being an expert. He obviously had done it more than once before. It took him about 20 minutes to get it apart and I think about the same to put it back.
