Dad's Farmall H was a 1945 model and had the steel shifter knob. My 1949 model H that my Grandad bought new in the fall of 1948 has the rubber shifter knob. Also has a rubber shifter knob on the PTO control lever under the right side of the seat. Easy to use and beats reaching down to the PTO to pull up on the rod. Grandad told me 30 years ago that they switched back to rubber knobs after World War 2. Hope this helps.
