Is what I did for a front emblem for an H is this. I straightened it all up as good as new (it was bent a little). Then I cleaned it all up so that it was that good old grey color of the metal. Then I took it to art class and with a real small art painting hand brush and a real steady hand I painted the background black (left raised edges and letters unpainted). I even used the oil based paint that the art people use to paint on canvase with. Kept tractor shedded ever since the restoration and the emblem looks as good as the day I painted it. No flaking or nothing. If you are lacking a steady hand or art supplies you might want to consider having a art painter do it. A side emblem might be a little bigger job, but an art painter should be able to do it for you at a bare minimal of expense. Some artists even do air brush but I am not sure if they do that with oil based paint.
