Dale - My condolences on the loss of your father... Here's the shutdown procedure directly from an MD owner's manual - gotta think the procedure for an SMDTA is the same: 1 - Be sure gasoline supply is turned on. 2 - Retard the engine speed control lever, and at the same time pull the compression release lever all the way back. 3 - Shut off gasoline supply at the tank and allow the engine to use up the gasoline in the carburetor. 4 - After the engine stops on gasoline, push the compression release lever to Diesel position to let the starting valves cool on their seats. Added suggestion: If the tractor has been pulling hard and is hot, let it idle for several minutes on diesel (to cool the head) before going through the shutdown sequence.
