Bob, I'd start with a flash light. Look down in the tank and see if you find any sediment/trash in there (I've seen leaves in the bottom of a tank that would float over the opening occaisionally). If so, flush the tank. The hose solution mentioned already does well for a temporary fix, but you will need to keep it handy! If the tank is rusty inside, you can put a strong magnet under the tank a few inches from the outlet to catch alot of the stuff before it plugs the valve (at least not as often). Other than that, I had one with sediment blocking the valve itself that I cleared by poking down from above through the tank into the top of the petcock valve with a coat hanger until I saw the sediment floating into the bowl. I have also seen an air lock type of problem (after just cleaning the bowl), when I needed to loosen the glass bowl slightly and then the gas would run. Good luck, Stan(VA).
