tim i think you have the "fast" 300 or 350 mixed up with a silver king tractor. the only way that i can think of to seriously overrev an old farmall is to remove the governor weights or wire the governor spring together. unless your m motor has been freshly overhauled the least you would do is break the top ring lands on the pistons. and if you were really revving it up with those old chains singing by your head on your old ih mounted picker you better wear a full body protective suit and a helmet.
