Transmission fluid level on a 624

Just a dumb question to make sure that I am reading the fluid level correctly: the level for the transmission fluid on a 624 can be either checked by taking the plug out of the side of the tranny (right beside the left foot) or by the dip stick attached to the tranny filler plug on top of the tranny right in front of the seat. If I use the stick which has no markings whatsoever, I am assuming that the fluid just needs to make contact with the end of the dipstick as this seems to be about the level of just below the plug on the side of the tranny. Am I making any sense?
