'49 Cub compression

Hi guys,
My manual says cylinder compression is 6.5 to 1.
What does this mean in real numbers?
I will be doing a compression test this week, what should I expect to see in PSI per cylinder?
I'm not much of an engine man, but I think I'm about to learn alot more over the next few weeks as I try to regain some power on the Cub. I realize the Cub is 53 years old and will not be as new, but what would be a reasonable PSI to hope for? Also what could I expect to see if the engine were overhauled, rings, pistons, etc...?
