All the Cubs with alternators as original equipment used the Delco- again from memory- series 10SI. Used on Chevy's from about 1974 to about 1985. I am more certain of the 1974 than the 1985. Used on most other GM products also. My notes show the use of the alternator on Cubs beginning in late 1976- but could be off by a few months either way. Pure speculation- a fancy way of saying assumption- buit my guess is that IH went to the alternator because no one was making generators in production anymore and the low sales volume of Cubs at that time did not justify the use of custom-made generators. Given the very low numbers of Cubs made with alternators, it is surprising that 4 different part numbers were used for those alternators, but for replacement just 1 part number replaced them all. My guess is that the final unit started charging at especially low RPM. Lots of assumptions.
