Bob - yep, something's not right. There's definitely no "over center" or detent feeling so I need to research this "tripping lug". I see that in the MD manual but can't really tell how it might create the "snap" condition. The starter seems to crank the same whether the lever is in the gas or diesel position but I did confirm compression at the plugs so the starting valves must be in the correct position. This weekend I will pull the carb bowl off and clean things the best I can. Also, I will remove the valve cover to see what's really going on. If yoiu're interested, I'll let you know. Hopefully I can get this thing to start on gas. In any case, your input has been incredibly valuable and I sincerely appreciate your time and energy. Thanks again!
