I live on a paved county road. When the snow plow goes buy at about 30 mph the ice and snow can destroy a mail box. I put my mail box on a hinge type arm made of pipe that will swing away when it is hit. The arm is about 8' long so that the hinge post is actually on the other side of the ditch. Being on the other side of the ditch it is never run over and if the box is hit by a car it hits it right in the windshield. It's been years since I have had to replace the box.
