They are not to bad of and engine but they did have some problems , the smoking thing could be a lot of things and with out seeing it myself it is had to say , It could be leaking injectors or i should say slobbering injectors , low comp. low fuel pressure from the pump. , week glow plugs of a couple that are not working . Also you will want to run it for a while and check for comp. in the rad as they have been knowen to crack heads .
