Jim, you or I have gotten bogus info. I had moved from my mothers home,my brother still lived their.Couple years before I moved the mailbox was run over.Being tired of replaceing post (several in a couple years time),I walked into the woods and cut a 7ft locust post about 8in across planted it 3ft deep.Couple years after I had moved my brother was awakened by a loud crash looked out side a a man had run over the mail box, destroying it.This time they did not get away the locust post did it's job and beat the living daylights out of the bottom of his car,he was boiling mad and was going to fight my brother but he had already called the police before he came out of the house. The police made the man in the car replace the mail box and told him that if he did not replace it in timly fasion he would be under arrest for destruction of Fed.Prop.My brother picked up the post and put it back in the hole with the man bitching about the post and the amount of damage to his car the police officer said nothing about the size of the post and kind of smiled at my brother when he put it back in the hole.No real difference between that and a fence post which it is.
