Didn't CRACK Me UP!!

I just finished tearing the engine down on my series I Super H, only to find the cylinder wall on #1 is cracked. Apparently it was left to weather and freeze at some point. In talking to an old veteran, his advice was to JB weld the crack (it is very thin), after the replacement sleeve was frozen and ready to install and let them cure together. Have any of you ever tried this method? Or perhaps have a better idea? Thanks in advance! ED
