The engine # stamped in the "boss" above the magneto/distributor may or may not be the same as the tractor serial #. It is my understanding that the early models were the same but somewhere along the line they strayed from one another.
In my case, I have a '48 super A according to the tag under the seat, but the engine "boss" is blank. I assume that means the engine was replaced.
